Dr. James Winston, MD is the founder and medical director of American Behavioral Clinics.  Dr. Jim Winston graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1981.  He completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of North Carolina in 1985.  Dr. Winston is board certified in psychiatry and has been in practice since 1985.

Dr. Winston has held medical director positions at First Hospital, Greenbriar Hospital,  and Charter Hospital. He is committed to American Behavioral Clinics outpatient services and providing patients with expanded access to psychiatric and behavioral health care.  Dr. Winston started American Behavioral Clinics Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) as an alternative to hospitalization.

He is a Professor with Rush University and has been a national lecturer to psychiatrists and family practice doctors.  In 2004, Dr. Winston was featured in an article in Milwaukee Magazine Dr. James Winston - Milwaukee Magazine Top Doctor Psychiatristand has been voted by his peers and featured in Milwaukee Magazines Top Doctors issue; 2004 to 2012.

Dr. Winston’s emphasis is looking at the whole patient both from a medical and psychiatric point of view.  As a medical doctor, Dr. Winston’s approach is holistic treating the whole person. By completing a through assessments of his patients, Dr. Winston has detected brain tumors, adrenal insufficiencies, diabetes, thyroid disorders,  B12 deficiencies, hyper-thyroid disorders, and anemia’s all  medical causes of many patients altered mood states.

As a general psychiatrist, Dr. Winston works with both adults and adolescents. He has been treating bi-polar, depression, panic attacks, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse disorders for thirty years.

Dr. Winston’s successful treatment outcomes are related to his ability to relate to his patients which includes a sense of humor mixed with professionalism and 30-years of psychiatric experience.
