We Treat ADD & ADHD Together

We know that treatment for ADD and ADHD cannot be approached with a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. We work with you to discover what the root cause of your ADD or ADHD is and treat it from there. For example, ADD can be a result of anxiety or another mental health issue. We work with you to discover this and determine what your goals are. From there, we come up with a treatment plan that you can follow given your lifestyle, maximizing the likelihood of recovery.

ADHD Medication Management for Children & Adults

Effective treatment for ADHD typically involves a combination of therapy and medication customized to the individual’s needs. Therapy helps develop coping skills, while medication can alleviate symptoms and improve functioning. Benefits of ADHD medication include symptom reduction, improved focus, better self-control, academic and occupational success, increased self-esteem, and support for other treatments. For parents, it can be a reassuring solution, providing your child with a stepping stone to a brighter, more focused tomorrow.

ADHD medication empowers individuals by providing control, confidence, and the opportunity to live life to the fullest. It is important to work closely with healthcare professionals to find the right combination of therapy and medication that works best for each individual with ADHD.

Our team of experienced Milwaukee Psychiatrists specialize in diagnosing and treating ADHD in patients of all ages. Through comprehensive evaluations, we can accurately determine the presence of ADHD and develop personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual’s needs. In addition to therapy, our psychiatrists are skilled in prescribing and managing a wide range of stimulant and non-stimulant medications commonly used to treat ADHD which may include:

  • Atomoxetine/ Straterra®
  • Bupropion/ Wellbutrin®
  • Guanfacine/ Intuniv®/ Tenex®
  • Clonidine/ Kapvay®
  • Amphetamine & Dextroamphetamine/ Adderall®
  • Methylphenidate/ Ritalin® /Daytrana®/ Concerta®/ Metadate®
  • Dexmethylphenidate/ Focalin®
  • Dextroamphetamine/ Dexedrine®/ ProCentra®/ Zenzedi®
  • Lisdexamfetamine/ Vynanse®
  • Methamphetamine/ Desoxyn®

We also offer ongoing support and monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of the chosen treatment and make any necessary adjustments along the way. Our goal is to help our patients effectively manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

ADHD Treatment FAQ’s

At what age can ADHD be diagnosed?

ADHD can be diagnosed as early as age 4 or 5, but symptoms must be present for at least six months and occur in multiple settings (e.g., home, school). Early diagnosis helps in managing symptoms more effectively.

Do I need a referral to get evaluated for ADHD?

In most cases, no referral is needed. You can contact our clinic directly to schedule an evaluation. Please note there are some insurance plans that could require a referral from your primary care provider. Be sure to ask.

Is ADHD testing covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by insurance provider. Our staff can help verify your benefits and explain any potential out-of-pocket costs before your appointment.

Do you offer medication management?

Yes. Our providers are experienced in prescribing and managing ADHD medications, including stimulants and non-stimulant options. We monitor effectiveness and side effects closely.

Are non-medication treatments available, like therapy or coaching?

Absolutely. Many patients benefit from behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), executive functioning coaching, and mindfulness techniques. These are often effective with or without medication.

What are the side effects of ADHD medications?

Common side effects can include appetite changes, trouble sleeping, irritability, or increased anxiety. We work closely with you to monitor and adjust treatment as needed.

How often would I need to come to appointments?

The frequency depends on the treatment plan. Initially, visits may be bi-weekly or monthly for medication monitoring or therapy. Over time, appointments may become less frequent.

Do you offer same-day or next-day appointments?

We do our best to accommodate urgent needs. Please call our office to check current availability.

At American Behavioral Clinics (ABC), recovery is possible.
